Rachel Smith Crowned Miss USA 2007

Rachel SmithDid you watch the Miss USA contest Saturday night? Miss Tennessee, Rachel Smith, was crowned Miss USA 2007. The Belmont University grad will spend the next year living in a New York apartment and will spend much of her time focused on breast and ovarian cancer awareness.

The two-hour event featured standard fare with the contestants competing in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown, and the interview. Participants this year seemed more like real women rather than Barbie Dolls. Early on, Miss Tennessee became one of my favorites with her genuine smile and natural poise.

Part of the prize package includes the Official Miss USA Mikimoto pearl tiara. Don’t you love pearls? They add a touch of elegance to any look. From traditional, graduated strands to colorful, multi-layered necklaces, they lend themselves to any style.  I prefer styles that combine the pearl with other elements like a bracelet of stones, freshwater pearls, and silver, or a simple strand accented with a touch of sparkle.  The truth is, whatever you prefer, pearls are the top choice for any beauty queen.

First off, I would like to say I have the utmost respect and admiration for any of the constants in these competitions, I know what its like to be a college student and have all that work to complete, and I am amazed that any of these women can tackle so much when there are only 24 hours in a day.
As far as the outcome? I completely agree! Miss Tennessee carried herself with such natural poise and grace she was a shoe-in for the win (in my eyes), eventhough the other ladies were all beautiful as well. My favorite part of the competition is the eveningwear – and I LOVED Rachel’s dress. (Which coincidently would look lovely with pearls, just like you were mentioning) Is it just me, or did it feel like there were a large amount of white dresses?? And, I can’t help but mention that I completely agree about pearls in general, they always seem to make anything you’re wearing a touch more sophistocated, and i LOVE them with a touch of shiny metal, such a nice contrast.

Ah, Miss USA, does one really have to win a contest to do some good in the world? I think the pageant idea is completely outdated but Miss Tennesse did look stunning. There were many beautiful white dresses, which is in vogue this spring, white that is…..so get out your pearls ladies and make a statement. Looks from small to big baubles will do – and who could tell what is cultured, fresh water? who cares. I personally like the smoky black pearls also, you don’t see these as often. They look great with grey, white or that little black dress. I’m off to get my tiara!

Wow, she is working that red dress, and those earrings are stunning. I love big dangly sparkly earrings! :)

I agree, pearls are perfect for just about any occasion. They are a classic piece that go with any outfit, you can dress them up or down. I’m getting my mom a pair of pearl earrings as a mothers day jewelry gift.
